What Can A New Hardscape Do For You?

Nothing transforms landscapes quite like hardscapes. Whether they’re modern paver patios or “old-world” stone perimeter walls, hardscape features are the best way to add value to your home and create an atmosphere you love all at once.

At Terren, we do things a little bit differently; with a full-time design team on staff, we help you decide exactly what style, material and construction-type will work best before breaking ground, so that you can feel confident in your decision before going through with the install. Once approved, our talented stonemasons come in to work their magic, using set processes and specifically-engineered plans to create remarkable hardscapes that last.

So if you’re ready for that luxury patio space or long winding walkway through the garden, you’re in the right place. We’ve got the skills to take your landscape to the next level, and can’t wait to get started.

What We Do Best

Patios

A patio hardscape is the foundation of most outdoor living spaces designed and installed on the Main Line. It’s where you’ll likely place landscape features for entertainment and relaxation, such as outdoor fireplaces, kitchens, grills and reading nooks. It’s also the perfect spot for a patio set, some deck chairs and a few good friends now and then. If you’re looking to drastically improve the value of your home and increase the potential for outdoor entertainment—this is the right place to start. Our designers will explain the pros and cons of brick, paver and natural stone patios while working out the details of your future hardscape. Once approved, we’ll send the expert stone masons in to perform the patio installation. After that, it’s all yours!

Walkways

Be it traditional flagstone leading to your front door or a winding brick path through overflowing perennial gardens, hardscape walkways are a great way to connect parts of your landscape with style. At Terren, our expert stonemasons and hardscape designers work together to create both formal and natural-looking walkways and garden paths all season long. These can be designed and installed in a variety of different ways, with both pavers and natural stone materials available.

Fire Pits

An outdoor fire pit or fireplace is one of the most popular landscape features installed on the Main Line and southeastern PA. Why? Because a cozy fire draws people in, providing both a source of entertainment and setting the mood for the night. At Terren Landscapes, we install both gas and wood-burning fire pits, using custom hardscape designs and talented stone masons to make it work for your backyard or patio. Customers generally prefer stone fire pits, but whatever material you desire can be utilized—provided it’s not flammable!

Outdoor Kitchens & Grills

What outdoor living space is complete without somewhere to cook and eat food? While a small charcoal grill might be enough for some, most people would prefer an outdoor kitchen or grilling island made of natural stone materials, pavers or brick. This gives you room for storage, table space for food prep and—if you’d like—an attached bar to entertain guests with. Not sure what’s possible or what will work for your backyard or patio? Don’t worry—we also specialize in outdoor kitchen design, so that you can rest easy knowing it’ll be done right, work well and look amazing!

Retaining Walls

Retaining walls are most commonly used to transform a hill or sloped section of your landscape into two or more level areas, usually connected by natural stone, brick or paver steps. Unlike a hill, which can be difficult to traverse, maintain and plant on, landscapes separated into multiple levels via a retaining wall are highly useable. In some cases, new patio construction also requires a retaining wall in order to maintain a level surface atop a sloping backyard. In every case, these excellent landscape features require careful planning, design and execution. As such, utilizing a competent retaining wall contractor is essential, lest you end up with one that will come tumbling down over time!

Pool Patios & Coping

While the pool itself may be the centerpiece, it’s what you create around it that will see the most use. As pool hardscape contractors on the Main Line, we specialize in pool patios constructed with travertine, tile, brick, pavers or natural stone, but can also install stamped concrete, permeable pavers and more. These same materials can be used for pool coping too, which is designed to match the pool patio or stand apart with as a unique, decorative border. All these options have their pros and cons, which is why you’ll want to get a professional pool patio design before beginning your project. This will help you make the right choices for your property, and helps guarantee a smooth installation and quality finished product.

Belgian Block & Cobblestone

There are many advantages to using Belgian Block (also known as cobblestone or “sett”) in the construction of hardscape features on your landscape. Most notably, their durability, traction and old-world aesthetic make them especially popular choices for driveways, driveway aprons and other traversable hardscapes. Already like your driveway, but want to see that old-world, Belgian Block charm on your property? Consider adding a cobblestone driveway edge or border instead. These are more common and economical than an entire cobblestone driveway, but still provide a useful and stylistic feature that will outlast just about anything else!

Natural Stone & Boulders

“Natural stone” is an umbrella term for any non-fabricated rock dug or quarried for use in landscape and hardscape features. This includes flagstone, Pennsylvania Bluestone, “rip rap” or ballast stone, river rock of various sizes, Mexican beach pebbles, boulders, gravel, slabs and more. Some materials, such as flagstone and Pennsylvania Bluestone are cut into regular shapes for use in traditional or formal patios and walkways. Others, such as river stone or ballast, are used in the creation of rain gardens and bioswales designed to look like naturally-occurring features of the landscape. To get a better understanding of the pros and cons of these materials, check out this blog post about natural stone. And if you’ve already made up your mind, get in touch with us to learn what our talented stone masons can do with it on your property!

Masonry Repair & Renovation

Nothing lasts forever, especially hardscapes installed by unqualified contractors or homeowners. That’s why our stone masons, construction supervisors and hardscape designers are also experts on masonry renovation and repair. Whether it’s fixing a tumbling brick wall or resetting an old stone patio, we have the experience and talent to bring your hardscape back to life. And if you have any historic brick or stone in need of restoration, we do that too!
